Hooked on Books for Kids

Hooked on Books for Kids is an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to literacy, life-long learning, and the love of reading.  We achieve our goals by giving brand new, age-appropriate books to underprivileged children and youth in Erie County from birth to age 18.  We distribute these books through other nonprofits that work with underprivileged children and youth, such as schools, churches, social service agencies.  Examples include Corry Schools, Bethany Outreach Center, Mission Empower, and Kindercare Daycare. In addition, volunteers read monthly, May through October, at Edison School, grades pre-K-K through five, and each time they visit every student in those grades receives a new book.  We also encourage parents to read to their children.

In addition, we have a Books for Birthdays program whereby parents or other caregivers may register their children and receive three books per year for each child in the family.

Since our founding in 1990, we have distributed over 600,000 books!
