On Tuesday, August 11, is Erie Gives, and we are asking our community to join Nurturing Hearts in continuing to empower, encourage, and create opportunities for girls throughout our community.

For more than 20 years, Nurturing Hearts has worked to provide girls with safe spaces where they can build confidence, strengthen their self-esteem, develop healthy relationships, learn valuable life and leadership skills, and recognize the possibilities for their futures.

Founded by Shawnta' Pulliam-Brown, Nurturing Heart's was born from a personal journey of overcoming adversity and a passion to ensure that every girl knows her worth, discovers her purpose, and realizes her full potential.

Today, that vision has grown into a life-changing organization that has served thousands of girls throughout Erie County through school-based self-esteem programs, healthy lifestyle education, leadership development, drug and alcohol prevention, mentoring, and professional mental health counseling services for youth and families.

Our mission has never been more important.

Through our evidence-based self-esteem and healthy lifestyle programs, girls learn to build confidence, develop resilience, make healthy decisions, and create positive futures. More importantly, we are seeing lives changed.

Among participants who reported suicidal thoughts before entering our program, none reported suicidal ideation by the conclusion of the program. This encouraging outcome reflects the power of early intervention, trusted relationships, positive role models, and a community that chooses to invest in its young people.

Your gift also helps support our 15th Annual Beautiful Girls Workshop, a two-day experience where girls ages 10–18 come together for empowerment, confidence building, sisterhood, inspiring speakers, activities, meals, makeovers, our Big Sister Panel, Promise Boards, and memories they can carry with them long after the event ends.
