All Aboard Erie
All Aboard Erie (AAE) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that advocates for more and improved transportation choices in Erie County, including passenger trains, high-speed trains and light rail, better public transit and improved multi-modal transportation connectivity. AAE strives to develop grassroots partnerships with community stakeholders, business leaders, elected and appointed officials to bring more frequency of modern passenger rail service to Erie County and to the communities of the Great Lakes region. Our goal is to build better railway connections to and from the metropolitan regions of Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Buffalo and beyond.
Programs and Services
Formed in 2009, AAE has offered lectures and panel discussions on wide topics from leading experts in the field of passenger rail service for the public free of charge. In 2016 AAE raised over $10,000 to conduct a study of a high-speed rail line from Erie to Pittsburgh through Beaver Falls and Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Faculty and graduate students from Penn State Behrend’s School of Engineering also conducted two feasibility studies.
All Aboard Erie was selected as the lead organization of a new, eight-member, six-state umbrella organization called the Lakeshore Rail Alliance (LRA) whose geographical location runs over 900 miles between Chicago and New York City. AAE was chosen because of Erie’s location between NYC and Chicago.
