Burleigh Legacy Alliance
The Burleigh Legacy Alliance, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to revive and expand the legacy of Erie-born Harry T. Burleigh; celebrating Harry T. Burleigh's contributions to the music of America and the world through his roles as baritone singer, composer, role model, arranger, champion of African American traditional music and artist of the Harlem Renaissance. The Burleigh Legacy Alliance works to establish his birthplace, Erie, Pennsylvania, as a home for Burleigh scholarship, develop resources to support programs that advance his legacy and maintain a progressive interest in Burleigh preservation and performance.
Programs and Services
The Burleigh Legacy Alliance offers educational programs and musical performances throughout the year. The Alliance provides extensive programming during Harry T. Burleigh Burleigh Week in Erie. All events this past year were offered through broadcast and digital media dwith online learning tools for arts and humanities education. [email protected] program partners for H. T. Burleigh Week 2020 programs included WQLN TV and Radio, the Erie County Public Library, the City of Erie, the Erie Downtown Partnership’s Downtown D’Lights, and the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate IU5. The Alliance partners with the Music Department of Tennessee State and Big Blue Opera Initiatives for concerts and workshops, all virtual events in 2021.
