The Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) is Erie County’s designated community action agency formed to provide advocacy and diverse services directed toward the elimination of poverty and the causes of poverty. GECAC is dedicated to empowering individuals and families to improve their quality of life through:
• the advancement of opportunity for education and training,
• the opportunity to work,
• and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity.
Programs and Services
GECAC is Erie County’s designated poverty fighting organization. We help 1) hard working, low-income families 2) seniors living on a fixed income 3) wage earners suddenly out of work 4) residents released from prison. GECAC helps break the cycle of poverty through initiatives focusing on housing, food, education, health and family and economic security. Our impact is felt through programs such as Meals on Wheels, Head Start, Adult Protective Services, Summer JAM, GED, Weatherization, Re-Entry, Adult Basic Education, Upward Bound, Senior Centers, Farmer’s Market Nutrition, Pre-K Counts and more.
