Penn State Behrend: Susan Hirt Hagen CORE: Positive Youth Development (PYD) and The Mentor ProjectSearch Again
Our Mission is to cultivate a holistic, intentional, and interdisciplinary approach to positive youth development by promoting resiliency and pro-social behavior. We facilitate community outreach, conduct research, and provide evaluation to support educational institutions, community agencies, and government initiatives that serve youth.
Programs and Services
The Susan Hirt Hagen CORE Community Outreach division works to capitalize on youth's strengths guiding them to successful adults. The PYD program is a county-wide prevention initiative with the goal of infusing the 40 Developmental Asset prevention framework into all sectors of Erie County. Through PYD's work, middle and high school youth are empowered to create positive climates through bi-annual youth summits, the community is educated in both youth opportunities and successes, asset rich schools are developed, and community members are educated on building assets in the lives of youth. The Mentoring Project creates a inter generational group mentoring program in which college students and community members mentor Erie youth.
