Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network

Mission

The SSJ Neighborhood Network, sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania, provides leadership, advocates for local residents, and partners with the broader community to develop opportunities for both personal growth and neighborhood revitalization.

Programs and Services

• Weekly soup kitchen serving over 5,000 hot meals each year
• Individualized and small group programming for youth such as tutoring, mentoring, the Pedal Mettle earn-a-bike program, art, basketball, cooking and more
• Summer work experience for neighborhood teens
• Career education for students at McKinley Elem. and Wilson Middle School
• 7 flourishing community gardens and one urban farm
• Genesis Program, an affordable housing mentoring program for home ownership
• Weekly farmers’ market June – Sept. that incentivizes fresh produce purchases within a food desert
• Sidewalks, murals, façade improvements and other physical revitalization of neighborhood
• Individualized budgeting, counseling, and referrals for more than 1,500 each year
