The Upper Room of Erie, Inc.
The Upper Room is a faith- based organization that serves over 45,000 visiting guests a year. volunteers and staff serve those in need regardless of orientation, 365 days a year, doing all we can to provide a dynamic social environment for those who are less fortunate.
Programs and Services
Erie’s only daytime shelter for homeless men and women. US mail, clothing distribution, daily breakfast, Sunday afternoon dinner, phone and computers, library and games, television, daily hot coffee and drinks, on the street safety monitors, monthly events.
The Upper Room started The Safety Monitor program along Peach Street, which has been followed by The Mental Health Association of NWPA. The Upper Room works hand in hand with St. Martin’s Center serving daily breakfasts, and St Paul’s Church of Christ, The Unitarian Universalist Church, Mercyhurst Prep, Westminster and Wayside Presbyterian Churches, and other groups for a weekly Sunday Dinner. The Upper Room also serves as a referral for those that require additional services to The City Mission, SafeNet, GECAC, and United Way agencies. The Upper Room serves more than 40,000 men and women in need yearly, who otherwise might be on the street in Erie and the surrounding area.
