On behalf of the residents of Erie County, United Way brings the community together to provide resources that help people in need or at risk solve their problems.
United Way works to reduce the number of children and families living in poverty by increasing self-sufficiency. The focus areas for this work are student success from birth and family stability.
Programs and Services
United Way acts as the backbone organization to effect systemic change to improve community conditions. Education is the key to unlocking the net of poverty. Key initiatives to assure student success include community schools, Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, Positive Youth Development, high quality early childhood education, kindergarten readiness and career exploration. In addition, supports to ensure family stability are an important component of United Way's work, including 2-1-1, Erie FREE Taxes, FamilyWize Free Prescription Discount program and emergency needs.
