United Way is on a mission to crush poverty in Erie County. We envision a collaborative community where students succeed and families are stable.
It is only then that we can break the cycle of poverty. By removing barriers to learning found in low income areas, United Way and its partners are paving a pathway out of poverty into prosperity.
Programs and Services
United Way acts as the backbone organization to effect systemic change to improve community conditions. Education is the key to unlocking the net of poverty. Key initiatives to assure student success include community schools, Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, Positive Youth Development, high quality early childhood education, kindergarten readiness and career exploration. In addition, supports to ensure family stability are an important component of United Way's work, including 2-1-1, Erie FREE Taxes, FamilyWize Free Prescription Discount program and emergency needs.
