Young People's Chorus of Erie
The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is a comprehensive youth choral music education program. Under the direction of Dr. Gabrielle Dietrich, YPC Erie choristers learn healthy vocal technique, music literacy and music theory.
The young singers in YPC Erie come from 28 public, private, parochial, cyber and homeschools across Erie County. Students in second grade through high school are welcome to join the chorus. No previous singing experience is necessary. Our mission is to reach students in the community who have a passion for singing and would benefit from additional music instruction.
Programs and Services
Since 2009, more than 1,200 students have been associated with YPC Erie’s various choral education programs. YPC Erie has four ensembles including Cantare (training chorus), Concert Chorus, Young Men’s Chorus and Chorale (advanced chorus). We are always looking for new students to join the program! The season begins in early September with open rehearsals where new students can attend a rehearsal to meet staff and other choristers. There is no audition process and financial assistance is available to families who express need.
The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is a youth outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend.
