This scholarship was created to support Chemistry students at Gannon University in honor of Mark E. Sitter, the son of Fred and Arlene Sitter. Mark was a 1980 graduate of Cathedral Prepatory High School and went on to earn a BS from San Diego University and a master's degree in medical administration from Penn State University.
Mark proudly served his country as a nuclear specialist and navigator in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of lieutenant. While serving, he was engaged in sea duty during the Bosnian crisis. As a volunteer through his church, he was involved with mission work in Romania designing and building a swing set for the children at an orphanage. Mark died tragically in a motorcycle accident in 2003.
In February of this year his dear mother and Fred’s wife of 64 years, Arlene, passed away at the age of 87 and is now reunited with him.
For Erie Gives Day Fred Sitter has generously donated $8,000 in matching funds and will match your donation when you select the Mark Sitter Memorial "Power" Scholarship at check out.
