A Hand Up ERIE is worth it!

Please consider donating to A Hand Up ERIE on Erie Gives Day.  August 11 is coming soon and we at A Hand Up ERIE look forward to the event each year to see how the support of our community continues to grow and the trust you show in us to help those in need in Erie County grows also.  Our organization is 100% volunteer operated.  We have no one that is compensated, so all of our funds and yours can be put toward our mission-to offer those in need a hand up for a better life.  

We (my wife and I and 2 church friends) became involved in AHUE in 2016.  My first foray into earnestly helping those in need without knowing them or raising funds from events, we asked friends and family to help a person who recently gained custody of his children to provide household goods and furnishings.  We collected them and stored them in my garage until it was time to take the items to him along with things the 4 of us purchased.  The Erie community supported our ask very generously and we ended up with a lot more items than this family could use.  A Hand Up ERIE was born then, November of 2016.  We needed to find others in need so I could empty my garage.   We found them (and continue to find them every day) and donated what we had to them.  But, the items kept coming in.  We decided this was a calling we needed to answer and have been going strong for nearly 10 years.  The Erie community is responsible for our continued success by donating furnishings and home goods items to us continually.  We have been able to help over 5000 families with over 60,000 items.

We are thrust into helping every week of the year as volunteers.  We have volunteers that pick up donations, do fundraisers, clean and repair items, put inventory on shelves, sort through donations, pull trailers, drive trucks, do office work, pick things up and put them down, contact social service agencies, contact the applicants themselves, logistically plan the deliveries every week and so much more.  

Please consider helping A Hand Up ERIE on Erie Gives Day, August 11, 2026.  We can use all the help we can get and welcome you to come for a visit and volunteer once or 1,000 times.  Your heart will grow 3 sizes that day, I guarantee it!  The vast majority of the funds we will receive on this day will go to purchase beds/frames/mattresses/bedding.  We always want to be able to give NEW beds to help those without one find peaceful rest.  Most of the other items we deliver are used but in good condition.  Beds are ALL NEW.
