Hurry Hill Maple Farm Museum Association

A nonprofit organization

The Hurry Hill Maple Farm Museum Association is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history, culture, and science of maple sugaring. Located in northwest Pennsylvania, the Association operates the Hurry Hill Maple Farm and Museum, which connects visitors with the region’s maple heritage through hands-on learning, historic collections, demonstrations, and community programs.

Founded in 2009 by award-winning maple producer, educator and storyteller Janet Woods, Hurry Hill began as a maple education center and has developed into one of the region’s most comprehensive maple history museums. The organization preserves artifacts, documents, photographs, and equipment that illustrate the story of maple syrup production from Indigenous traditions through modern commercial practices.

The Museum’s mission is to educate present and future generations about maple sugaring, forestry stewardship, agriculture, and rural history through exhibits, research, and public programming. Each year, Hurry Hill serves students, families, educators, tourists, and maple producers through guided tours, field trips, lectures, and seasonal events.

The museum maintains a significant collection of maple sugaring artifacts, including taps, buckets, evaporators, syrup pitchers, tools, photographs, and advertising materials. These collections support researchers, educators, and the public while preserving an important part of agricultural and cultural heritage.

Unique to Hurry Hill, setting it apart from other maple museums, is its exhibit and interpretation of the Newbery Award winning book Miracles on Maple Hill, written by an author living in Erie County about a real family and its experiences.

As a community-centered nonprofit, the Association relies on donations, grants, volunteers, and partnerships to sustain its work. The museum fosters appreciation for maple traditions, sustainable forestry, and the natural resources that shape the region’s identity.

The Association also serves as a steward of regional heritage, documenting the contributions of maple producers and rural communities in northwestern Pennsylvania. Looking ahead, Hurry Hill remains committed to expanding educational opportunities, enhancing visitor experiences, and preserving maple sugaring traditions for future generations while inspiring curiosity, stewardship, and lifelong learning.
