The Urban Erie Community Development Corporation (UECDC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that promotes economic growth and revitalization through culturally responsive programs for children and adults. We are headquartered at the E.F. Smith Quality of Life Learning Center, named for the Rev. Ernest Franklin Smith, a pastor and disciple of Booker T. Washington. Our popular community gardens are located throughout the Buffalo Road neighborhood and allow New American families to put food on the table. We help New American families improve their language skills, qualify for citizenship, navigate the maze of government programs and connect with job training. We also operate after-school programs serving more than 200 young people. We are currently involved in seeking anchor tenants for the former Burton School, a neighborhood landmark that is slated for revitalization as a community hub.
